Jay Coonan - Director of Inventory Management, Protective Industrial Products

As an industrial distributor, you are likely aware of the current contract dispute between dockworkers represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union members (ILWU) and shipping companies represented by Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) at 29 US west coast ports. After nearly six months, delays of trans-Pacific goods bound for the U.S. West Coast are being felt by everyone in nearly all industries. The goal of this communication is to update you on the impact and actions we are taking to minimize the effects.
Since August 2014, PIP has been routing much of our goods through the East Coast; however, as many global companies do the same, the aggregate effect is now longer transit times - from the normal 30 days to an average of 50 days.
During this period, we have worked to increase our inventory levels to buffer the extended transit times. With over 500,000 sq. ft. of warehousing in three strategic locations, we are uniquely-positioned to accommodate customers who may be experiencing critical issues.
We have been working diligently with our PIP Hong Kong team and our network of logistic partners to do our very best to deliver with minimal delays. PIP is well-positioned to deal with this situation, but we cannot resolve it alone. Your understanding and cooperation in dealing with delays is greatly appreciated. Communication with your Territory Account Manager is critical to overcoming any individual issue that may be a result of this current reality.
